Prof. Laprise received her B.A. in Biochemistry at Brandeis University and her Ph.D. in Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University School of Medicine.  While at Tufts, she conducted two major research projects.  The goal of the first project was to assess the integrity of superovulated Siberian hamster oocytes in order to determine their utility in assisted reproduction protocols.  Her doctoral thesis work focused on the application of a sensitive gene scanning technique to reveal genetic sequence changes and epigenetic DNA modifications in various human genes; in particular, the human factor VIII gene.  She began her work in the field of genomics during a post-doctoral research fellowship at the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health.  Here, she identified and characterized novel putative genes, which may be involved in hematopoietic stem cell function in the mouse.  After spending a year in a teaching position as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, she joined a Boston area start-up genomics biotechnology company, which focused on hair and skin biology.  Here, she designed and developed protocols for investigating new genes, which may be involved in hair growth.  She most recently taught high school biology at Hingham High School, before joining the Babson College faculty in 2003.

Prof. Laprise's current research interests include genomics and epigenetics, as they relate to assisted reproductive technologies and cancer development, and investigating new pedagogical methods in college science teaching.
