Dr. Sharpe is currently Chair of the Division of Mathematics & Science at Babson College, where she has been a professor of statistics and operations research since 1995. Prior to joining Babson, she was a MacArthur Research Associate at Yale University and taught courses at Bowdoin College and the University of Virginia, where she earned her doctorate in Systems Engineering in 1987. Dr. Sharpe is coauthor of over 30 articles and reports, has given over 30 presentations, and is currently working on her third book.
Dr. Sharpe's research focuses on the historical perspective of women in mathematics and science; business forecasting; and statistics education. As the current Vice-President and Chairman of the Board for the DOME Foundation (Diversity and Outreach in Mathematics and Engineering), she has helped to motivate and support efforts towards increasing interest in math and science among women and diverse populations. Dr. Sharpe has organized multiple symposia for DOME which focus on increasing collaborations across corporations, academic institutions, and public schools.
Dr. Sharpe currently serves as Associate Editor for CAUSE (Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education) and Associate Editor for the journal entitled Cases in Business, Industry, and Government Statistics. Her textbook entitled Business Statistics (with Professors R. DeVeaux at Williams College and P. Velleman at Cornell University) is to be published in 2008.
