Dr. Houghtalen joined the Mathematics and Sciences Division in September 2007 as an Assistant Professor and currently teaches courses at both the graduate level (Data and Decision Modeling, Optimization) and the undergraduate level (Applied Quantitative Modeling). She received her B.S. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Tennessee and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Babson, Dr. Houghtalen taught at Georgia Institute of Technology, including courses in optimization and supply chain logistics.
Dr. Houghtalen's current research focuses on integrating optimization, game theory, and mechanism design in order to promote sustainable collaboration in logistics networks. In July 2007, she was awarded the Management Science Strategic Innovation Prize (MSSIP) by the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO). The award was in recognition for a paper addressing the operational issues that arise when cargo carriers form an alliance, and was co-authored with Georgia Tech Assistant Professor Ozlem Ergun and Associated Professor Joel Sokol.
