The Newton Apple Tree

The Newton Apple Tree - Small Image
The Newton Apple Tree at Babson:
While the exact details of the story of the falling apple and its influence on Newton's work are not clear, there really was an apple tree at Newton's childhood home in Woolsthorpe Manor, Lincolnshire. The tree here at Babson is a genuine fourth generation descendent. It is known, variously as the "Pride of Kent," "Flower of Kent," and the "Newton Apple". Babson received a scion from the William Penn Estate, Pennsbury, in 1953. The Babson tree has been grafted to create two fifth generation trees. The apple is described as "mealy" and is red with yellow and green stripes.
