William Rankin Dill
President of Babson College 1981-1989

Biographical
Dr. Dill was born in Sewickley, PA in 1932. He earned an A.B. from Bates College (1951) and Ph.D. from Carnegie-Mellon University. President Dill spent ten years as teacher and administrator at Carnegie-Mellown and then ten more doing the same at New York University. After leaving Babson he became Director of the Office of Global Enterprise and adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Southern Maine.
Babson Years
Horn Computer Center built. Center for Executive Education is built replacing the School for Continuing Education. Recreation center is built. Putney Hall is built.
Babson moves into the “highly competitive” category according to Barron’s.
Certificate of Advanced Management Studies founded.
Center for Information Management Studies (CIMS) founded.
Forest Hall, Roger’s Pub, Hollister, and Nichols are renovated. The Sir isaac Newton Library is rebuilt and renamed Tomasso Hall. The Everett Stephens Terrace is built.
Carpenter Prize is begun to recognize outstanding service to Babson.
Babson Women in Business founded.
Increased support for faculty through endowed professorships, more competitive salaries, greater recognition for publication, and support for sabbaticals.
