William Francis Glavin

Biographical

Bill Glavin was born in Albany, NY in 1932.  He earned his B.A. at the College of Holy Cross (1953) and M.B.A. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (1955). He spent many years with IBM and Xerox before becoming the ninth President of Babson College in 1989.

Babson Years

Introduced TQM to Babson.

A new two-year MBA curriculum is initiated.

Investing in Babson’s Future far exceeded its $80 million goal.

Implemented the Term Chair program to promote development of junior faculty.

Increased the number of endowed chairs from three in 1989 to 15 when he left in 1997.

Built the F. W. Olin Graduate School, the Reynolds Campus Center, The Sorenson Center for the Performing Arts, the Glavin Chapel, and the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entreprenuership.

Webster Center is dedicated. Bryant Hall is reopened as a residence for non-traditional students. Van Winkle Hall is opened. Lyon is refurbished, rebuilt, and renamed for the building's benefactors, A. Andronico Luksic and his son, Andronico (BS 1976). 

Babson celebrates its 75th anniversary.

Knight Annex is rebuilt, a second storey added and renamed Malloy Hall.
