Children


 

Cradles to Crayons, Boston, MA

Cradles to Crayons mission is to put new and gently-used children's essentials into the hands of Massachusetts families who need them most. From strollers and car seats to books and clothing, we provide items that enrich the lives of children and the people who love them.

 

FME Project: Help sort and distribute collected items. Project sponsored by Java Jolt

Wellesley Council on Aging, Wellesley, MA

The Wellesley Council on Aging provided program and resources for the senior citizens of the Wellesley area.

 

FME Project: Organize and teach computer classes to local senior citizens on the Babson campus.

 


 

Wellesley and Needham Housing Authority Tutoring Program, Needham or Wellesley, MA

The Needham and Wellesley Housing Authorities house over 300 families.  Babson has provided home-work help and recreational activities to the children of these communities for over 15 years.

FME project: High School tutoring, SAT prep or ELS programs.


 

Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, Boston, MA

The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) is to help boys and girls, generally from disadvantaged circumstances, develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. To achieve this, they offer a variety of program activities and support services designed to assist in the educational, emotional, physical and social development of 6-to-18 year olds, without regard to social, racial, ethnic, or religious background.

 

FME Project:  Assist in the after-school and Saturday programs.

William Ellery Channing School, Hyde Park, MA

 

William Ellery Channing School serves Pre-K through 5th Grade Students From The City Of Hyde Park. Most of the students from this school participate in free or reduced lunch programs and the majority of the students received needs improvement or below on the most recent MCAS.

 

FME project: Exploration day at Babson and/or volleyball fundraising event.

 


 

The Citizen School, Boston, MA

The Citizen School goal is to prepare students for leadership roles in the 21st century.  The  learning model includes Apprenticeships, Explorations, Homework Investment Time, and Team-building activities. Citizen Schools focuses on skill development - particularly in the areas of writing, data analysis, and oral communication - and links closely to school activities and learning standards. Citizen Schools turns children into community heroes: children apprentice with lawyers, web designers, architects - culminating their learning apprenticeships by arguing trials before federal judges, designing web sites for their school, organizing public events, publishing newspapers, and much more.

The Nativity School, Worcester, MA

The Nativity School of Worcester is an independent, Jesuit, middle school for boys that exists first and foremost to offer a high quality education to those in need. Priority is given to boys from challenging circumstances who need extra support and care in their educational learning. This will be accomplished in the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person; mind, body, and soul.

Hunger, Homelessness and Housing


 

Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore, South Weymouth, MA

The Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore’s mission is to help homeless families living in shelters move to a permanent home.  The agency has a food bank, a furniture bank and is continually working on new housing.

 

FME Project:Assist in refurbishing a temporary housing unit for a homeless family.

The Greater Boston Food Bank, Boston, MA

The Food Bank annually distributes nearly 20 million pounds of food, for a total wholesale value of over $41 million. The food is distributed to a network of more than 800 member feeding programs (including soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters) throughout the nine counties in eastern Massachusetts. Through its network of member feeding programs, The Food Bank helps to feed 1.25 million meals each month.

Community Servings, Boston, MA

Community Servings is Greater Boston's free, hot, home-delivered meals program for people ill with AIDS, their dependents, and caregivers. Our goal is to serve all individuals with AIDS who request meals, as well as their needy caregivers and dependents. We are committed to serving a diverse client base and have worked hard to reach Greater Boston's traditionally disenfranchised and under-served populations.

 

FME Project: Prepare and package meals for home delivery.

Habitat for Humanity, Boston, MA

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

Habitat has built more than 250,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. HFHI was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife, Linda.

 

FME Project: Habitat build in Needham or Boston


 

Spread the Bread, Natick to Cambridge

Work in collaboration with the Bernon Center, Panera Bread, Needham food pantry and Harvard Sqaure Meals program. 

 

FME Project: Pick up left over bread from Panera Bread, wrap the bread and deliver it to various area food programs.

 


Special Populations


 

Charles River Arc, Needham, MA

Serves people with developmental disabilities through family support, day and vocational programs and community residential programs.

 

FME Project: Assist with activities for mentally disabled adults and children. www.crarc.org


 

 Coaches vs. Cancer

Coaches vs. Cancer is a joint effort by the American Cancer Society and National Association of basketball coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to help win the fight against cancer. www.cancer.org/docroot/PAR/PAR_7_coaches_vs_cancer.asp

 

FME Project: Plan and organize a coaches vs. cancer event on campus.

 


 

Special Olympics of Massachusetts

Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competition in 26 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. There is no charge to participate in Special Olympics.

FME Projects: One FME group will plan and staff the February 12 Basketball Tournament and another FME group will plan and staff the Spring swim meet  http://www.specialolympicsma.org.  Both are held on the Babson campus


Babson College Skate- A-Thon

Coordinate a community wide skate-a-thon to benefit the agency/organization of your choice.

FME project: Organize and execute skate-a-thon.


Web of Benefit, Wellesley, MA

Web of Benefit is a not-for-profit organization created to recognize and aid women affected by domestic violence in the reclaiming of their spirit while assisting them in reaching their highest potential.  The Web of Benefit gives grants to women who have been out of an abusive relationship for 6 months or more.  Grants may be given for education, housing, child care etc.

FME project: Work with the children of the clients of Web of Benefit and organize a fund raiser to support the grants. www.webofbenefit.org
