Community Partnerships

The Bernon Center has many community partners, some of which are highlighted below.  If you would like to suggest an organization for us to partner with email your suggestion to Bernon@babson.edu

Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore consists of a food pantry, a clothing closet, a furniture bank, and housing for homeless families. Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks from yard work to painting to construction.

The Greater Boston Food Bank  (linked)The Food Bank annually distributes nearly 20 million pounds of food, for a total wholesale value of over $41 million. The food is distributed to a network of more than 800 member feeding programs (including soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters) throughout the nine counties in eastern Massachusetts. Volunteers work to sort incoming donations and package them for delivery. 

Harvard Square Church Meals (linked) Harvard Square Churches Meal Program serves dinner every Thursday evening to over 120 homeless guests.  Babson volunteers participate in preparing and serving meals as well as providing social contact for the guests.  On campus volunteer opportunities are also available making desserts for our volunteers to take with them. 

Habitat For Humanity The Babson College Chapter of Habitat plans many fundraising events as well as both daily and alternative Spring Break Habitat volunteer opportunities.  Each year a group of approximately 15 faculty, staff, undergraduates, and alumni travel to Mexico to help build with Habitat International.

Natick Community Organic Farm(linked) The Natick Community Organic Farm is a non-profit, certified organic farm providing productive open space, food to the public, and hands-on education for all ages, year-round.  The Farm is always looking for volunteer and is located locally on Rt. 16 in Natick.

Catholic Charities of Greater Boston Service opportunities are available Monday through Friday from 4pm until 9pm.  Volunteers can spend time with 7th through 12th graders in the teen center or tutoring homework (Math and English help are the most needed).  This site is located in Dorchester and transportation is not yet provided.

The Charles River YMCA The Charles Rive YMCA provides recreational opportunities to build the health of spirit, mind and body based on the highest ideals of the Judeo-Christian heritage, and to improve the quality of life of children, individuals, families, and communities.

Cradles to Crayons (linked) Cradles to Crayons mission is to put new and gently-used children's essentials into the hands of Massachusetts families who need them most. From strollers and car seats to books and clothing, we provide items that enrich the lives of children and the people who love them.

Junior Achievement (linked) Junior Achievement is the world's oldest, largest and fastest-growing non-profit economic education organization.  Junior Achievement International develops and serves Junior Achievement and Young Enterprise programs in over 112 nations in all 24 time zones.

The Citizen School (linked) The CitizenSchool goal is to prepare students for leadership roles in the 21st century.  The  learning model includes Apprenticeships, Explorations, Homework Investment Time, and Team-building activities. Citizen Schools focuses on skill development - particularly in the areas of writing, data analysis, and oral communication - and links closely to school activities and learning standards. Citizen Schools turns children into community heroes: children apprentice with lawyers, web designers, architects - culminating their learning apprenticeships by arguing trials before federal judges, designing web sites for their school, organizing public events, publishing newspapers, and much more.

The Nativity School The Nativity School of Worcester is an independent, Jesuit, middle school for boy that exists first and foremost to offer high quality education to those in need.  Priority is given to boys from challenging circumstances who need extra support and care in their educational learning.  This will be accomplished in the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person; mind, body, and soul.

FIRST (linked) FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a multinational non-profit organization, that aspires to transform culture, making science, math, engineering, and technology as cool for kids as sports are today.

Rosie's Place (linked) The mission of Rosie’s Place to provide a safe and nurturing environment for poor and homeless women to maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives.

Wellesley Housing Authority/Barton Road Babson supports local low-income families living in public housing through a variety of programs.  Some past programs have included holiday gift donations, tutoring and mentoring for children, family togetherness events, and computer classes. We are always in need of volunteers, especially men, willing to be mentors and/or program coordinators.  

Waltham Fields Community Farm Outreach (linked) Waltham Fields Community Farm (WFCF), supports local hunger relief efforts by providing fresh produce to local food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. Since its germination in the fertile minds of an idealistic crew of gleaners in 1995, WFCF has donated approximately 120,000 pounds of produce.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston (linked) The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) is to help boys and girls, generally from disadvantaged circumstances, develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. To achieve this, they offer a variety of program activities and support services designed to assist in the educational, emotional, physical and social development of 6-to-18 year olds, without regard to social, racial, ethnic, or religious background.
