Babson College President Brian M. Barefoot ’66, P’01 and Walter Esquivel P’98, Executive Director of the Institute for Latin American Business at Babson, visited Argentina and Ecuador in March 2006 to meet with the Babson community of both countries.
Alumni, families, and friends of Babson gathered in Buenos Aires and Guayaquil to welcome President Barefoot and Walter Esquivel on March 23 and 27, respectively. Special thanks to Octavio Caraballo ’65, P’91 for hosting the event in Buenos Aires at the renowned Cabaña Las Lilas Restaurant, and to Estefano Isaias ’68, P’00 ’02 for hosting the reception at his stately home in Guayaquil. Also, thanks to Daniel Melhem ’98 and Agustin Calisto M’99 for their help in organizing these events.
In both occasions, President Barefoot talked about the challenges and opportunities Babson is currently facing. As the college’s reputation has grown, it has moved into competition with the finest schools in the world. The challenge is to significantly strengthen what makes Babson College special—the way students are prepared to be entrepreneurial leaders who can succeed anywhere in the world.
The plan includes five goals:
- Pioneer the next generation of cutting-edge entrepreneurial education
- Take the Babson brand of entrepreneurship to the world
- Attract and retain outstanding faculty
- Educate the entrepreneurial leaders of tomorrow
- Create a first-rate campus experience
In his remarks, President Barefoot mentioned how the involvement of alumni is essential for the success of this plan. Time, talent, experience, and donations are valuable and most needed for the advancement of Babson.
These memorable evenings were marked by overwhelming enthusiasm and great interactions. Both groups expressed great interest in the college’s plans and its international activities.
