India: Crouching Tiger—Global Competitor with Professors Ash Rao and Abdul Ali.
India is expected to be one of the largest economies in the world by 2020. Students visited the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore—“the Silicon Valley of India.”
“I still find it difficult to describe the experience we had on the Babson India elective—such a rich and diverse country that is full of extremes. We moved between the high tech world of Infosys through to a family-owned manufacturing plant and from the Indian Institute of Management to Parikrma (an entrepreneurial school for slum children). We learned an immense amount from each company visit and gradually built up an appreciation of where India is, where she is going, and the challenges she will face in getting there.
“India is already significant player in the global economy and is going to continue to grow. All MBA students need to understand how the international business world is changing and where we will fit in the future. This elective helped me to begin to grasp some of what is to come.” —Alison Denby, Fast Track MBA Student — May 2006
“Armed with open minds and bottles of water, 25 business students discovered that halfway around the world exists many cultures within a single country, all with ready smiles, persistent innovations, and upbeat feelings about their futures.”
“The visit to India was truly a remarkable and life-changing experience as I gained a deep understanding of a developing nation’s struggle to overcome poverty and corruption in its quest to emerge as an economic superpower.”
