To the Babson Community:

It is our great pleasure to announce that Babson College has been selected by NAFSA’s selection committee as one of three schools to be spotlighted in the NAFSA report Internationalizing the Campus 2006: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities.

Submitted by Global Program Services (GPS), a unit of the W. F. Glavin Center, the Babson nomination for this notable award included a comprehensive report highlighting the multitude of global activities on campus.

NAFSA: Association of International Education (www.nafsa.org) is a non-profit organization promoting international education around the world and is the leading organization that advocates for international students and education abroad initiatives in Congress. NAFSA has nearly 9,000 members at 3,500 institutions worldwide, representing 84 countries.

Each year NAFSA develops Internationalizing the Campus: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities to highlight exemplary practices, model approaches, and major trends, describing the current state of international education on U.S. campuses. Intended to present an agenda for action, the annual report also contributes to the dialogue about the development of a strong U.S. international education policy.

Institutions selected for a spotlight profile demonstrate significant strides toward campus-wide internationalization through a specific area or particular program or initiative. During their review, the selection jury was especially impressed by the initiative taken by a business school [Babson] recognize and act upon the importance of internationalization as having potential for being used as a model for other campuses as they work toward internationalization.

This recognition could only be achieved through the collaborative efforts of the entire Babson community – below are just a few of the accomplishments at the time of nomination that were highlighted:

• Twenty percent of our undergraduate students are from 60 countries.
• Thirty-six percent for our graduate students are from 39 countries.
• More than 90 of our 224 faculty are involved internationally, in business or education.
• Our professors speak 24 different languages and are thought-leaders with hands-on global business and applied research expertise.
• Nearly 2,000 of our alumni live and conduct business in 100 countries.
• Since 1997, we have developed 18 multi-dimensional collaborative partnerships with leading universities across the globe.
• The option for both graduate and undergraduate students to graduation with a concentration in Global Management.
• Babson students have more than 400 opportunities for international experiences each year.
• Since 1999, Babson has published the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, the world’s largest and longest-standing study of entrepreneurial activity in more than 37 countries, representing 97% of the world’s GDP.
• Over the past 20 years, 1,140 educators and entrepreneurs from 48 countries and 355 institutions have participated in Babson’s Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators (SEE). Babson recently held regional symposia in Chile, China, and Costa Rica.

Please join me in congratulating our colleagues and staff at Global Program Services (GPS) for having obtained this recognition. Many of the activities that Babson got credit for are in fact taking place under their responsibility.
