Syllabus

Introduction: The Competitive Advantages in the New Asia program provides a two week hands-on experience for students interested in an in-depth look at key Asian management systems and concepts. Approximately twenty-five students will travel to three different countries (Nagoya, Japan; Seoul, Korea; and Bangkok, Thailand) to benchmark the designs and operations of value delivery systems in various industries including manufacturing and service. This program will design mini-consulting projects for selected local SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises) that can provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the local business environment, as well as field experience in Asia. Participants will have the rare opportunity to meet Asian business and government leaders to develop a mutual understanding of the different business philosophies and practices of Asian and American managers. In addition, students in previous years visited attractions including Atsuta Jingu Shrine, Nagoya Castle, Toyota Automobile Museum, and Asahi Beer Nagoya Factory in Japan, participated in the Jingu city tour in Korea, and visited the Siam Culture Center, Grand Palace, Emerrald Buddha Temple, and the Reclining Buddha temple in Thailand.
