What are the requirements for participation in an International Off-Shore Elective?
You must have completed at least one half of the MBA program in order to be eligible for course participation. This requirement applies to all MBA students: full-time two year students, one year students, evening students, etc.
Can I register if I don't have a passport yet?
Yes, simply write "in process of applying" in the Passport section of the registration form. Be sure to apply for your passport well in advance. This can be done through the Boston Passport office or through your County Clerk's Office. Many local post offices also have applications on hand.
Will I need to obtain a visa to participate in an International Off-Shore Elective?
This depends on your citizenship and the regulations of the country or countries to be visited. You will be informed well in advance if a visa is required.
What is the Babson ID number requested on the registration form?
In most cases, your Babson identification number is your social security number. If you do not have a social security number, please note this on the form.
Once I register for an elective with Global Program Services, will I automatically be registered for the three credits?
Yes. Once your participation in the course has been confirmed, Office of International Programs will inform the Registrar that you are to be enrolled in the course for credit. You should not register for the course when you sign up for your other courses in that academic term.
If I don't know the language of a particular country, will this be a problem?
No. All classes and site visits are conducted in English. However, we do recommend that you learn some basic phrases prior to departure. Pocket dictionaries, phrasebooks and language instruction tapes may prove useful. Occasionally, course pre-departure sessions will include a language and culture lesson, but this is not guaranteed for each course.
If I don't know who else is in the course, do I have to specify a roommate?
No, but if at all possible, specify the type of room you have decided upon and you will be notified when it is time to decide on a roommate. If you prefer to stay in a double room but don't have a specific roommate in mind yet, check the "twin room" category on the registration form and leave the "preferred roommate" category blank. Can I bring my partner, spouse or family member?
No. These MBA International Electives are intensive academic programs, not intended for extra travelers.
Can I deviate from the group travel itinerary?
You may deviate from the group travel itinerary only for certain reasons, where permitted by the airline, and the program itinerary. This must be arranged with the Manager of Offshore Electives well in advance of travel.
Can I get frequent flyer miles for my travel?
Yes, there is space on the registration form to list your frequent flyer numbers. You will also have the chance to sign up for miles beforehand with our travel vendor.
If I have financial aid, can this cover the course fee for an MBA International Elective?
Your financial aid package may cover all or part of the tuition costs of the course, but most likely will not cover the course fees paid to Office of International Programs. For more detailed information about financial aid, please contact the Student Financial Services office at (781) 239-4219, fax (781) 239-5510.
Does the price listed on the course descriptions include tuition?
No, the fee includes only course-related expenses. Tuition is paid separately.
Where do I need to make payments on all fees?
There is a distinction made between paying travel/course fees and tuition. All course fees (for travel, site visits, etc.) will be paid at Office of International Programs, including the $500 deposit. Payment for the three course credits can only be paid at Student Financial Services. These two sums cannot be lumped together on a bill for you and must be paid to their respective departments. For more payment information, please refer to the Financial Information section of this website.
Will my tuition for this program be covered under the 15 credits that I prepaid? (Full time students)
Yes, you should be taking 12 other credits; the elective accounts for the remaining three "unused" credits for that term.
