Once you have identified an education abroad program that matches your interests and needs, you can begin the application process.

  • Fill out Babson’s online application (an essay describing your interest in education abroad, two references, and your transcript).  The online application is available for a two-month period, from mid November until late January  for the following academic year.

  • To apply you must meet this minimum eligibility:
       - At least junior standing at the time of departure.
       - Completion of OEM and MCE at the time of departure.
       - A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.70 at the time of application and  the semester prior to departure (some schools might have even higher GPA
requirements).  Failure to maintain adequate academic standing will result in removal from a program.  (If your GPA is below the minimum 2.70 you are still allowed to apply. You will automatically be placed on a waiting list for spring semester. See the FAQ section for more details.)
       - Demonstrated maturity, clarity of purpose, personal commitment, and flexibility through your written essay and personal interactions with OIP staff.

  • You may select up to five institutions on your application. You must pick more than one school.

The Office of International Programs (OIP) works through the placement process with consideration given to both student qualifications and preferences as they compare to opportunities that are available. OIP gives significant weight to your essay and letters of recommendation. They look at how well you are able to articulate why you wish to study abroad and what professors have to say about your maturity level, independence, and motivation. OIP also considers GPA and appropriateness of your academic background for the chosen institution. Lastly, OIP considers your previous international experience and the potential for you to represent Babson well overseas.

  • OIP will notify you in early February to let you know if you’ve been nominated for an education abroad program.
  • You may be asked to fill out additional application materials requested by the host institution, including additional forms, an official transcript, pictures, and a possible application fee.
  • You must participate in a mandatory orientation program held the semester before departure.

DEADLINE
The deadline is January 29th.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Some programs require a certain degree of language proficiency, usually defined as one or two years of college-level language study or the equivalent (such as short- or long-term residence in another country). Check each program for specific language requirements.
