| Program description | With eight faculties and several research centers and specialized schools, Lund University is the largest institution of research and higher education in Sweden and among many considered being the leading university in Scandinavia. The majority of the University is located in Lund, but there are also several academic and research institutes in Malmo, a campus in Helsingborg and learning center in several towns in the southern part of Sweden (Skane). The tradition of learning in Lund goes back to the Middle Ages, when the city was home to a seminary. As an archbishopric, Lund was the spiritual capital of mediaeval Scandinavia. The University was founded in 1666 to the further the ‘Swedification’ of the provinces Sweden had captured from Denmark in 1658. It has since evolved into a modern centre of research and higher education and now enjoys a leading position, regionally, nationally and internationally. Programs cover traditional academic disciplines as well as specialized areas like commercial aviation and the fine and performing arts. The Department of Business Administration is the largest of all of the departments at Lund with around 3,500 students and over 100 courses in English. The Department is housed at the School of Economics and Management. Founded by the Danes around 1000, Lund is the second oldest town in Sweden where more than a thousand years of history are blended with modern knowledge and visions. Here one finds the charm of the small town, with 100,000 inhabitants, side by side with the temptations and comforts of the big city. Lund is situated in the centre of the attractive and expansive Oresund region in southern Sweden. The southern part of Sweden is a rich and beautiful landscape, with scenic views, plenty of spectacular castles and a large agricultural landscape. More than 40,000 students from all over the world attend Lund’s tradition-rich university, adding youthful pulse to Lund’s life of culture and entertainment. Lund offers classical museums, art galleries and other sights. Theatres, music, lectures, inviting restaurants and cafes are found in the center of Lund, all within walking distance of the university. |
