| Program description | Nanjing University is a comprehensive university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1902, it is one of China’s oldest and most famous universities, ranked third in China by research activity. The University’s downtown centrally located campus is host to this program, and provides easy access to any part of the city. The University serves around 20,000 students. The Institute for International Students at Nanjing University enrolls students from abroad for intensive study of Mandarin and it offers a bachelor degree Chinese language program. In a special cooperation with AIFS, Nanjing University is offering an accessible semester-long Mandarin language study program for beginners or those with a limited knowledge of the language, complemented by a selection of courses taught in English which combine to give a comprehensive introduction to Chinese language, culture, economy and society. Students stay on the downtown campus in university student residences. Nanjing is the capital city of Jiangsu Province and also the political, economic and cultural center of this province. It is located in the southeast of China, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Nanjing is a famous historical and cultural city in China.
