Program description

Nanjing University is a comprehensive university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1902, it is one of China’s oldest and most famous universities, ranked third in China by research activity. The University’s downtown centrally located campus is host to this program, and provides easy access to any part of the city. The University serves around 20,000 students. The Institute for International Students at Nanjing University enrolls students from abroad for intensive study of Mandarin and it offers a bachelor degree Chinese language program. In a special cooperation with AIFS, Nanjing University is offering an accessible semester-long Mandarin language study program for beginners or those with a limited knowledge of the language, complemented by a selection of courses taught in English which combine to give a comprehensive introduction to Chinese language, culture, economy and society. Students stay on the downtown campus in university student residences.

Nanjing is the capital city of Jiangsu Province and also the political, economic and cultural center of this province.  It is located in the southeast of China, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.  Nanjing is a famous historical and cultural city in China.  City wall, temples, palaces and beautiful mountains are interwoven to enhance the charm of this city.

Housing optionsDouble rooms in university residences. Students receive a meal allowance for three meals daily in the University cafeteria while on campus.
GPA requirement2.7 GPA
You must have at least this GPA at the time of application and the semester prior to exchange. Failure to maintain adequate academic standing will result in your removal from the program.

Language NotesYou must take a Beginners’ Mandarin course during the semester.
Credit Load12-15 credits is recommended.  All students take beginners Mandarin (5 credit) and Chinese Cultural History (4 credit) courses (respectively) plus one or both of the other two courses available.
