Frequently Asked Questions

A Parent's Guide to Babson Study Abroad

We hope that you are excited about your child’s decision to spend a part of his or her college career abroad. This experience will most likely be a life-changing one that will open your child’s eyes and minds to new people, places and ways of thinking. While this journey will be fun and rewarding, it will also hold challenges; but these are at the heart of what studying abroad is all about.

Your child will return as a more mature version of him/herself, with new ideas, passions and independence. We understand that you may have questions and reservations. That is certainly to be expected as your child is preparing to live far away in an unknown place, possibly for the first time in his/her life. We know that this can be stressful and even scary for the family members of those studying abroad.  The attached handbook was designed to answer most, if not all, of your questions. It covers the majority of the areas involved in studying overseas, and you are welcome to contact us with further questions.

One of the most important elements for your child to have a positive study abroad experience is communication. Your child needs your support, in many different ways, to make this experience happen. This handbook was designed to compliment the thorough binder your child received from our office. That binder includes just about everything your child needs to know about studying abroad with Babson. Your handbook is specific to the needs, questions and concerns of parents. We encourage you to look at your child’s binder and to go through it together so you can understand their responsibilities. Also, the host school or sponsoring program will send your child pre-departure materials, which you should also familiarize yourself with before he or she leaves.
