| Program description | The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was established in October 1963 as Hong Kong’s second university. The University is the only one in Hong Kong which has a college system and operates on a full credit unit system. Its constituent colleges are Chung Chi College, New Asia College, Shaw College and United College. Each undergraduate student is associated with one of the four Colleges, which are responsible for informal education and for academic and cultural activities for staff and students. CUHK has adopted bilingualism as its basis of teaching, and most departments offer courses in both Chinese and English. While Cantonese is widely spoken in Hong Kong, some of CUHK’s teaching faculty also use Mandarin (or Putonghua) as their language of instruction. The University’s 331-acre campus makes it the largest campus amongst the higher education institutions in Hong Kong. It commands an inspiring view of Tolo Harbour and the hills beyond. International students at CUHK can choose from a wide variety of courses in Chinese literature, culture, history, politics and economics, all taught in English, through the International Asian Studies Programme (IASP). The Programme also offers Mandarin (Putonghua) and Cantonese language classes. In addition, most CUHK courses are open to international students, and courses in English are available in the Faculties of Arts, Business Administration, Engineering, Science and Social Science |
