Global Management Program Overview

The Global Management Program (GMP 7500) provides the opportunity for MBA students to earn credit while working on challenging assignments in finance, logistics, marketing, management information systems, supply chain management, and other business disciplines in a foreign country. At the end of their project, participants present results and recommendations to management at the sponsor company. While sponsor companies obtain valuable consulting services, Babson MBA students broaden their professional experience, improve their foreign language abilities, and develop their global management skills.

There are two methods for participating in the GMP:

Traditionally, GMP has been an application based program available to full-time MBA students and full-time evening MBA students. The selection process begins in October, and selections are made and projects are assigned between January and April. During the spring, participants prepare for their assignments under faculty supervision. Students then spend between 10-12 weeks working abroad during the summer for the sponsor company. In most cases, companies pay Babson for the internship, and Babson, in turn, provides funds for the round-trip air travel, housing, food, and miscellaneous expenses for the intern. Because corporate sponsors make the final intern selection, their requirements are key determinants in matching candidates to projects.

Another option for students is to secure a GMP internship themselves. This method requires students to find a sponsor company, find a faculty advisor, and develop a project. While the Global Program Services office only offers the matching process for the applicant pool for summer internships, this method allows students to do an internship during any academic session. These projects must have an international scope and must fulfill the same requirements as the traditional GMP assignment.

Participation in GMP counts towards the international experience requirements for the Global Management Concentration.
