Important Forms, Documents and Fees

Form DS-2019

The Form DS-2019 shows that you are eligible for the J-1 Exchange Visitor visa. It is issued by the college you are authorized to attend and shows how long you may remain in the United States. Students with J-1 status are allowed to stay in the U.S. for the time period of their studies as stated on the Form DS-2019 plus a 30 day grace period beyond this date to gather their belongings and make arrangements to return home.

Once you receive your Form DS-2019 from Babson you must contact the U.S. Embassy or consulate nearest you for information on how to apply for a visa. Visa processing varies from country to country and may take 2-3 weeks or more.

SEVIS Fee

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) collects a congressionally mandated fee to cover the costs of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). This fee is separate from other visa fees and must be paid to DHS, and NOT to the embassy or consulate, prior to visa issuance. You will be sent more information about this fee and the payment process with your Form DS-2019. For more detailed information please click here.
