Planning Your Arrival in the U.S.

Travel Dates
Exchange students should plan to arrive at Babson no later than one day before orientation. Students that are living on campus will be typically allowed to move into their campus housing the day before orientation.

All exchange students should confirm orientation dates with the Exchange Student Coordinator before making travel arrangements.

Students booking their return flight should consult the Academic Calendar to determine the last day of final exams before purchasing tickets. Students living on campus must move out of their housing by 8:00 PM on the last day of exams.

Please note: Students in J-1 Visa status are allowed to remain in the U.S. for a maximum of 30 days beyond the program completion date to gather their belongings and make arrangements to return home. However, students will be responsible for their own accomodations and travel after the last day of exams at Babson.

Orientation
All new exchange students are required to attend an orientation program before classes begin. The orientation program will help you to integrate more quickly into the Babson community and you'll have some fun too! Students should confirm specific orientation dates before planning their travel to the U.S.

Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate exchange students are required to attend the New Student Orientation. During this 2-4 day orientation, you’ll have the chance to make new friends, learn more about your new community, and explore the Boston area. In addition to the other scheduled activities and events, you must attend the mandatory short session organized specifically for international and exchange students, which will address important issues related to your immigration status.

Click here for more information on the Undergraduate New Student Orientation.

MBA Students
All graduate exchange students are required to participate in the one-day Evening MBA Orientation, which includes an introduction to campus resources as well as a Classroom Simulation, where students learn how case studies are integrated into the MBA curriculum. The International Student & Scholar Services staff will also organize a session on issues related to your immigration status, which is mandatory for exchange students. Click here for further information on the Evening MBA Orientation.

Graduate exchange students arriving for the Fall semester are strongly recommended to participate in the optional Pre-MBA Orientation. During this week-long program, they join other new international MBA students in activities and events designed to familiarize them with campus, the curriculum, student services, the Boston area, and of course their classmates. Activities have included an introduction to on-campus services; an introduction to policing and public safety in the U.S. and at Babson; library and campus tours; “Crossing Cultural Boundaries”; and a tour of Boston.
