Immigration Information on Obtaining a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019
Most international students at Babson College enter the U.S. with an F-1 (Student) or J-1 (Exchange Visitor) visa.
After a student is admitted to a program at Babson College and has deposited, they will need to complete a Declaration/Certification of Finances (DEC) certifying financial ability to cover their educational and living expenses for the length of the program, or one academic year, whichever is shorter. The original DEC and supporting financial documents must be submitted to the consular officer at the U.S. Embassy in the student's home country. A copy of the DEC and any supporting financial documents must be submitted to the Office of International Programs (OIP) to obtain the appropriate immigration document. If the DEC is complete a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or Form DS-2019) is issued by the College. If an incoming Babson student will be coming from another U.S. school the procedures mentioned above remain the same, but an "F-1 Transfer Report" must be completed as well.
The student's next step is to pay the SEVIS Fee and apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa in their home country. Students will receive a welcome packet along with their Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 that which will explain these next procedures.
Note: The visa application process varies from country to country and can take up to two to three months. It is important for a student to begin the process as soon as possible after being accepted to Babson College.
