The 2007 Latin American Summit was hosted by INCAE in Costa Rica from Noevember 1-5. Over 50 participants from leading family businesses and universities throughout Latin American gathered for 2 days of interaction and learning. This was the first ever STEP Summit in Latin America and it was certainly a success. The culmination of a year's research paid off as academics and family members interacted together around the findings and themes from the first case studies in the region.
The Summit is an annual exclusive gathering of the business families and academics who have participated in the STEP research. It is a unique shared learning event in which participants have the opportunity to:
Apply research findings on business growth and continuity
Participate in live case discussions by successful companies q Benchmark practices against other business families
Receive personalized feedback from academic practitioners
Create action plans for enhancing entrepreneurship
Connect to a global community and leading-edge knowledge
Role of a Women as the Leader for the Enterprising Family in a "Machista " Environment
Some of the research findings and issues discussed were:
How does a policy of no family members in management effect entrepreneurial behavior?
Passing on entrepreneurial dreams/visions to the next generation?
Reputation and networks as family resources for entrepreneurial growth?
The influence of culture on entrepreneurial activities?
Knowledge transfer between generations and its effect on entrepreneurship?
The family pool as a constraint to expansion?
