At Babson’s Institute for Family Enterprising, we take a strategic, growth-oriented approach to working with family businesses and groups, the dominant form of business organization worldwide. Our approach is different than that of most scholars and practitioners who focus solely on assisting families in handing their business and wealth over to the next generation. We address the overlooked and more difficult challenge – assisting families to create an ongoing legacy of entrepreneurial growth, not just pass a business from one generation to the next.

We know that to achieve continued success and growth, families must pass on the entrepreneurial mindsets and capabilities that enable them to create new streams of social and economic wealth across many generations. This family practice is referred to as transgenerational entrepreneurship. To empower family businesses and groups to fulfill their enterprising hopes and goals through successful transgenerational entrepreneurship practices, we provide the following:

1. Experiential Teaching
We deliver a fully integrated experiential family-enterprising curriculum that mentors students and trains families on how to manage family business growth and change issues.

2. Research
We partner with scholars around the world to conduct applied research on successful transgenerational entrepreneurship practices. Our research findings have immediate application to family businesses and are integrated into the curricula at Babson and our partner institutions.

3. Outreach Programs
We offer next–generation, customized and packaged programs on transgenerational entrepreneurship for family businesses and groups around the world. Our expert team regularly delivers workshops, seminars, speeches, and family business consulting.

4. Leadership
We draw on extensive global faculty resources in the areas of teaching, outreach, and research and develop long-term relationships and networks with leading family businesses and institutions.
