Babson College co-sponsored the first China-U.S. Symposium for Entrepreneurship Research and Education with Nankai University and four other institutions in Tianjin on April 9-10, 2006.  More than 500 persons from 152 colleges and universities throughout China attended the conference.

The research symposium was followed by the Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators (SEE).  The symposium, which attracted 71 participants from 52 schools, was co-sponsored with Nankai University and held at the Nankai University School of Business.

Enthusiasm, excitement, engagement," is how Vice-Provost for Entrepreneurship and Global Management Stephen Spinelli, Jr. described the events.  "This was a tremendous gathering of members of leading business schools, corporations, and government agencies in China, all focused on entrepreneurship.

Babson faculty attending included Spinelli, Prof. Jeffry Timmons, Prof. Robert Eng, and Provost Michael Fetters.  In addition, Prof. Gao Jian of Tsingua University joined the SEE faculty to teach part of the program.   Professor Gao attended the SEE program at Babson College in 2002.

In an intensive three-day program, the participants explored the entrepreneurial process, the "art and craft" of teaching and learning entrepreneurship, and core topics in the discipline.  The goal of the program was to help all participants become more effective, innovative teachers of entrepreneurship.  While the course was taught primarily in English, simultaneous translation was available for those more comfortable with Chinese.  Topics covered in the program included:  The Quest for Master Teaching, Mapping the Entrepreneurship Territory, New Venture Creation, Entrepreneurial Finance, Corporate Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Curriculum Design, and Alternative Pedagogies, a comparative discussion of Business Education in the US and China, and the Entrepreneurial Mind in Action.
