For additional MLA examples, visit the MLA site. | Basic Steps | IMPORTANT: Since this interface is a combined platform for access to several products (and Babson only subscribes to one of them), make sure you select the FEDERAL TAX tab (at top) before beginning any search, so that you will see the appropriate screen.
Start with either primary sources (Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, etc.) or with secondary sources (Portfolios). General navigation points - Click on + (plus sign) to expand an outline to reveal more subtopics,
- Click on underlined topic link to reveal a section of a portfolio,
To change portfolio view, see options in menu bar:
- Open 1 level Click once to reveal portfolio number and title; click a 2nd time to see the main sections; click a 3rd time to get a topical outline of the portfolio sections; click a 4th time to reach the clickable links within the portfolio. (To undo, click Close 1 level.)
- Open all Click to open all 5 levels of a portfolio outline. (To undo, click Close all.)
- Split Screen Click to see portfolio hierarchy on left and full text on right.
Starting with the Internal Revenue Code If you know the code section number, click the GO TO template at top right and type it in the appropriate box under Go to a document by citation and then click Go. Click on document link or change view to split screen.
If you do not know the code section number, try either of the following two upper right-hand template choices: Advanced Search or Guided Search. If you prefer to browse, there are two links in the left-hand column:
- Internal Revenue Code Index - for an alphabetical topical treatment of the IRS Code.
- IRC Coverage in Portfolios Index - for a numerical code section list with accompanying topics.
While in the code section, read and/or link to any of the following sections: - Background Notes: for tax code history,
- Treasury Regulations: full text,
- Expert Analysis: for relevant portfolio sections.
Starting with the Portfolios You have two options: - Search using either of these upper-right hand templates: Advanced Search or Guided Search.
- If you prefer to browse, either click on U.S. Income Portfolios (in the middle column) or click on IRC Coverage in Portfolios Index (in the left-hand column) for a numerical code section list with accompanying topics.

- Click on print icon (upper left).
- Select portion to print. (see note below).
- Maintain default setting for printer-friendly version.
- Click on Display/Print button.
- From browser, click File...print.
- Click Print.
