Obtaining & Loading Software

Current Babson faculty, students and staff may download software.
The link to download the software is in Babson Portal under the My Links section under the My Downloads heading. Look for Endnote X1.

EndNote X1 is the latest version, including: "Cite While You Write" for Word 2007, the ability to organize citations into groups, and a new quick search among other enhancements.

Students who leave the college before graduation and faculty or staff who are no longer employed at Babson must remove their software when they leave.

If you have an older EndNote version, first read this frequently asked question on backing up libraries and custom files and settings. See also their FAQ on compatibility.

Updating to EndNote X1 from a previous version

1. Save backup copies of any modified style, filter or connection files.
If your library is saved in the EndNote X directory rather than your My Documents Folder, move the library file to My Documents.
2. Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall EndNote X.
3. Log into the Portal.
4. Click on EndNote X1 in the My Downloads area.
5. Follow the instructions on that page to install the program.
6. Copy your saved style, filter, and/or connection files into the appropriate folders in
the C:\Program Files\EndNote X1\ directory. Your library(-ies) can stay in your My Documents folder.

Library Catalog Connection files using EndNote to search Horn Library’s library catalog are available at K:\PERM\LIBRARY\EndNote. Copy both files to your C:\Program Files\Endnote X\Connections folder. There are two connection file versions:

  • Babson.enz – to search only Babson’s holdings in the WEBnet Library Catalog
  • Webnet.enz – to search holdings of Babson, Bentley, Olin, Pine Manor and Regis College libraries

For questions about loading software check the EndNote’s Frequently Asked Questions for installing software or call the IT Support Center at 781-239-4357.

For questions about using the software, check below for links to documentation and known problems or call Horn Library, 781-239-4596 and ask for a reference librarian.

The Horn Library databases below allow direct export into EndNote. Instructions for direct export into these and other specific databases are at http://www.endnote.com/endnote_export.asp.

If you are working at a computer without EndNote, you can usually follow the same instructions, but save the file and later import into your EndNote library. When importing, be sure to use the appropriate filter.
