Scope

The AIP Directory includes five main types of institutional investors: public pension funds, corporate pention funds, endowments, foundations, insurance companies and banks/commercial finance companies.

1. In the Select Search Type main menu, click on Institutions.
2. Select Institution Search provides several options. Instructions for each type follow. This search will provide you with information on:
   • the institution's main office,
   • key personnel,
   • program summary,
   • portfolio review,
   • funded commitments by the institution,
   • etc.

All Institutions

1. After choosing All Institutions, the AIP Directory on Disk window will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all institutions in the directory.
2. Click on an insitution's name to retrieve information.

Institution Name

1. After choosing Institution Name, a search screen will appear. Type in the name of the institution you'd like to find and click Search.
2. If there is a match, the AIP Directory on Disk window will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all search results.
3. Click on the insitution's name to retrieve information.

Investment Criteria

1. After choosing Investment Criteria, a search screen will appear. You can click on the:
   • Investor tab to specify an institution type and an office location by city, state, and country.
   • Portfolio Review tab to specify an institute's total assets, allocation, status, consultants, and advisors.
   • Program Summary tab to specify an institute's assets of interest and investment guidelines.
   • Commitments tab to specify an institute's fund manager, type of fund, fund formation year, commitment amount, and total fund size.
2. After choosing all of your criteria, click Search.
3. If there is a match, the AIP Directory on Disk window will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all search results.
4. Click on an insitution's name to retrieve information.

Saved Search

1. After choosing Saved Search, click the name of the saved search. Click Search.
2. AIP Directory on Disk window will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all search results.
3. Click on the insitution's name to retrieve information.

Specialized investment advisors assist institutional investors in a variety of ways in the alternative investment market. The AIP Directory includes profiles of specialized advisors, including the services they offer.

1. In the Select Search Type main menu, click on Advisors.
2. Select Advisor Search provides two options. Instructions for each type follow. This search will provide you with information on:
   • the institution's main office and/or branch offices,
   • key personnel,
   • overview of the institution,
   • clients of the institution,
   • institution's partnership evaluation,
   • institution's partnership under management,
   • institutuion's approved commitments,
   • etc.

All Advisors

1. After choosing All Advisors, the AIP Directory on Disk window will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all advisors in the directory.
2. Click on an advisor's name to retrieve information.

Advisor Name

1. After choosing Advisor Name, a search screen will appear. Type in the name of the agent you would like to find and click Search.
2. If there is a match, the AIP Directory on Disk will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all results.
3. Click on the advisor's name to retrieve information.

1. In the Select Search Type main menu, click on Placement Agents.
2. Select Agent Search provides two options. Instructions for each type follow. This search will provide you with information on:
   • the placement agent's main office and/or branch offices,
   • key personnel,
   • capabilities of the placement agent, i.e. specialties, representative clients, services,
   • etc.

All Placement Agents

1. After choosing All Placement Agents, the AIP Directory on Disk window will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all agents in the directory.
2. Click on the agent's name to retrieve information

Placement Agent Name

1. After choosing All Placement Agents, a search screen will appear. Type in the name of the agent you would like to find and click Search.
2. If there is a match, the AIP Directory on Disk will come up. Click on the Expand All button to view all results.
3. Click on the agent's name to retrieve information.

1. In the Select Search Type main menu, click on Person's Name.
2. The Find Person menu will appear. Type in any part of a person's name and click on Find.
3. If there are any matches, the AIP Directory on Disk window will appear. Click on the Expand All button to view all results.
4. Click on a name to retrieve that person's background information.

• Quick List: make a report listing all of your search results in alphabetical order.
• Rankings: make a report that ranks your search by Total Assets, ALlocation to Alternatives, or Commitments to Alternatives.

You can't save records from this database. You can only print or cut & paste individual records into Word.  

Save your search:
1. Click on Search in the top menu. Then click Save Search.
2. Type in the search name and click OK.

* Note: You can't save when searching by Person's Name or by All Institutions.

Directory of Alternative Investment Programs, from Asset Alternatives in Wellesley, provides detailed profiles of the private equity investment programs of pension funds, foundations, endowments, corporations, and more. The CD-ROM version allows screening of sources by location, industry, amount of capital, type of sources, etc.
