Basic Steps
| There are now four ways to search plus InfoTrac's cross-searching PowerSearch: - Subject Guide (default) - searches for your terms in the listing of subject headings and allows you to narrow by subtopics
- Relevance Search - searches the entire contents and displays results ordered by the number of times your keyword(s) appear in the entire article. Much like searching most Internet search engines.
- Keyword Search - defaults to searching in title, citation, abstract for your keywords
- Advanced Search - allows you to search by keywords in specific fields, limit by journal/magazine name, by date and more
- PowerSearch/Cross Searchable Databases - allows you to search the many of the databases using Subject, Keyword or Advanced Search techniques. Some database are not included and most be searched separately.
Subject Guide: The opening search screen starts you in the Subject guide. - Enter a word or a phrase to begin your search.
When phrases are entered, InfoTrac will look for all words in the order given. For example: electronic commerce - Choose a relevant entry from the list of Subject Headings or from the list of articles if no subject heading was found.
Note: For major subject headings you may be given a choice: - All articles - a chronological list of all articles with the most recent first.
- Narrow by subdivision - a choice of subheadings, articles grouped by various subtopics, such as Electronic Commerce -- Case Studies or Marketing
- Click on the hyperlinked text with Retrieval Choices to read either the extended citation, abstract, or text of the article(s).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the article for other viewing and retrieval options. Options will vary according to formats available. You can choose to email, print, or save your article.
- Choose Back to... Citations on the left side menu bar to get back to your list of results.
- To enter a new search click Back to... Search on the left side menu bar.
Advanced Search: - To access Advanced Search, click the Advanced Search option on the left side menu bar.
- Enter a word, phrase, or words/phrases linked with AND or OR.
- When phrases are entered, InfoTrac will look for all words in the order given. For example: electronic commerce or e-commerce.
- To modify a search, choose Back to.. Search and you may use the previous search results (the R1 numbers) to combine with another term(s). Example:
R1 and (marketing or advertising) The Advanced Search method can be used to search subsets of the General Business File ASAP such as the Company Profiles (over 200,000 global companies of all types), SIC Descriptions (Standard Industrial Classification codes can help to find articles and companies in a specific industry group), and Investext (investment analyst or brokerage house reports). Note: When viewing records from the general business file ASAP, many records with BUS.COLL-numbers can be found in the library on the first floor near the microfilm collection. We own cartridge numbers starting with 2N through 74Z. |

|  Viewing, Printing & Saving Options | You can print or download at anytime using print and download commands from your browser. Scroll to the bottom when viewing an article, and you will see other view and e-mail options. To print, click File . . . Print from the web browsers' menu. To save to disk, click File . . . Save Frame As or copy & paste the text into Word. Make sure you save to A:\ for floppy disk or C:\ for your own hard drive, change the extension to .txt, and change the file type to "Plain Text". |

Search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender, or combine criteria. With the Complete Marquis Who's Who(R), find quick reference information on an additional 900,000 people. Includes Contemporary Authors. Go directly to Biography Resource Center. InfoTrac OneFile* combines news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social sciences, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Go directly to InfoTrac OneFile. Expanded Academic ASAP* provides an index of 2,300 academic and general interest periodicals with full-text immediately available for over 1,300 titles. Subjects covered include the arts, humanities, social sciences, and technology. Detailed abstracts are provided for all indexed articles. Coverage is 1980 to the present. Go directly to Expanded Academic ASAP. General Business File ASAP with Selected Investext* is an index of over 1,335 general business and finance magazines, trade journals, and local business journals, with full-text of 802 titles. Company Profiles, a directory of 200,000 public and private companies, and over 50,000 investment reports are also included. Coverage is 1980 to the present, with full text beginning in 1983. Investext Plus - search this database to find company and industry investment reports from over 500 worldwide brokers, with reports back to 1982. All company and industry reports are provided in full page PDF image. Go directly to Investext Plus. General Reference Center Gold* (Magazine Index) is a database that contains over 703 general interest magazines, with over 464 in full-text as well as Knight-Ridder/Tribune News Service articles . In addition, ready-reference sources, such as The Information Please Almanac, The Information Please Sports Almanac, Benet's Readers Encyclopedia, and The Columbia Encyclopedia are included, and fully keyword-searchable. Coverage is 1980 to the present. Go directly to General Reference Center Gold. Health Reference Center-Academic* is a consumer health information resource that includes a collection of excellent medical reference books, the full-text of over 500 pamphlets, and 228 medical magazines, including 180 full-text. Information can be found here on specific illnesses, medical terminology, drug information, medical tests, wellness, and health-related organizations. Includes 40+ full text nursing titles. Contemporary Literary Criticism Select (CLC--Select)* is an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors. Each CLC--Select entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, listing of principal works, and sources for further study. Go directly to Contemporary Literary Criticism.
Dictionary of Literary Biography provides nearly 10,000 biographical and critical essays on the lives, works, and careers of the world's most influential literary figures from all eras and genres. Go directly to Dictionary of Literary Biography.
Gale Virtual Reference Library is a collection of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research, including topics such as alternative medicine, geology, small business, fashion, multicultural America and popular culture. Computer Database has computer-related product introductions, news and reviews in areas such as hardware, software, electronics, engineering, communications and the application of technology from 1990 to the present. Business and Company ASAP* includes company profiles with data from Ward?s Business Directory and Graham & Whiteside's World Company Series as well as some business and management journals, trade/industry periodicals, local area business journals, and other publications.
