Library Users
Who may use the library?

Students, Faculty & Staff have full access to the facilities and services provided by Horn Library and the Horn Computer Center. These users are our first priority when providing services.

Alumni have lifetime privileges to many services within the library. You must present an alumni card in order to receive a username and password for computer access. An alumni card is also required to check out books. Please contact the Office of Alumni Relations to obtain an alumni card: 781-239-4562.

Visitors are welcome to use the library. Please visit the Information Desk to receive a temporary username and password for computer access. A $10 annual fee is required for those wishing to obtain a library card. (Must be a resident of Wellesley, Needham, Newton, Framingham, Dover, Natick or Weston.)

Students, Faculty & Staff take priority in the use of reference services and library resources. At the discretion of library personnel, you may be asked to show proper identification.

Library Card
How do I obtain a library card?

Babson Students, Faculty, & Staff: Your OneCard is your library card.

WEBnet Students, Faculty, & Staff: Your College’s ID card is your library card. (WEBnet includes Olin, Pine Manor and Regis Colleges.)

Alumni: Present an alumni card to be registered as a library user. Please contact the Office of Alumni Relations to obtain an alumni card: 781-239-4562.

Borrowing
What can I take out of the library?
How long may I keep items I've checked out?

  • General Collection items may be checked out for 4 weeks, and may be renewed twice.
  • Reserve Materials may only be check out for 2 hours at a time, and may not leave the library.
  • Audio/Visual Materials such as Videos, DVDs, Laserdiscs, Cassette Tapes, CDs, and CD-Roms may be checked out for 4 hours at a time and may not leave the library. (Playback rooms are available.)
  • Reference Books and Periodicals may only be used in the library.

Renewals
How do I renew my books?

  • Log into your library account.
  • Call the Information Desk at 781-239-4596.
  • Visit the Information Desk.
  • Books may only be renewed twice.

Fines
How much do you charge when materials over overdue?

  • Reserve Materials and Audio/Visual Materials are charged at a rate of $1.00 per hour, with a maximum fine of $25.00.
  • Books that are overdue for more than 45 days are considered lost. Patrons with lost books will be charged the replacement cost of the item, plus a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee which includes any overdue fines that would have accrued. If the item is returned, the replacement fee will be refunded, but the processing fee and any overdue fines will still be charged to your account.
  • Student fines in excess of $10.00 which are not settled within 30 days may be sent to Student Financial Services.

Interlibrary Loan
How do I request materials through interlibrary loan?

  • Students, faculty, and staff may request materials through interlibrary loan.
  • This service is not available for alumni or visitors.

Audio/Visual Materials
How do I use the library’s audio/visual resources?

Group Study Rooms
How do I reserve a group study room?
What are the rooms equipped with?

  • Group study rooms are only available to current students.
  • Rooms accommodate 2 to 8 people.
  • A minimum of 2 persons is required for occupancy.
  • Reservations can be made in a self-service sign up book at Information Desk 1 up to one week in advance.
  • The sign-up book is updated each Monday.
  • Rooms may be checked for 2 hours per group, per day.
  • All group study rooms have a telephone and desktop computer connected to the campus network.
  • Phones will only dial out to campus extensions. Incoming calls are accepted.

* Phones with conference capabilities: These phones have a speakerphone as well as a 3-way calling option . You must have a campus phone account in order to place off campus calls. You do not need a phone account to receive incoming calls.

Who do I ask if I have a question?

Services
What services does the library offer?

  • Telephones: Telephones are not available for public use in the library. A campus telephone is located in the lobby. Payphones are located in Reynolds or outside of Malloy.
  • Fax Machines: A public fax machine is located in Reynolds. The library does not have fax machines for public use.
  • Scanners: Public scanners are located in the 24 hour lab. (OneCard required for entry.) Additionally, a scanner is connected to workstation #15. This scanner is dedicated to Kurzweil, a program which assists the visually impaired. It will not work with other programs.
  • Photocopying: A copy machine is located in room 101. It makes black and white photocopies only, and accepts coins, bills, and your Babson OneCard. The library cannot make change for the photocopier. Special copy services, such as color copying, can be made at the Document Center, located on the first floor in Hollister.
  • Wireless Network: The entire library is equipped with a wireless network. For more information, visit the ITSD website.

Quiet Study
Where can I find a quiet place to study?

  • The third floor is reserved for quiet study.
  • Talking is permitted on the first and second floors, however please be respectful of your fellow students.
  • As a courtesy to others, please use your cell phone in the coffee shop lobby.
  • Headphones are available at Information Desk 1 if you would like to listen to music or watch a DVD on your computer.

Food
Is food allowed in the library?

Yes, as long you can are respectful of other library users and remember to clean up after yourself.

When having food delivered, you must give the delivery people your phone number or be at the Information Desk when the food arrives. We cannot accept food deliveries on your behalf.
