Finding Patents

US Patent and Trademark Office  - Provides text and page images of US patents back to 1974.  Includes information on patents from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Europe, and Japan.    ***PLEASE NOTE:***  In order to view and print the page images of the patents, it is necessary to download a TIFF plugin.  This plugin is very easy to download and is available through the USPTO web site. Look under the middle column under "Search Aids" and click on the plugins and viewerslink for instructions on how to download the plug-in.

LexisNexis Academic Legal Research - Patents - Search all US patents from 1971 to present or the manual of classification.  Look for Design, Plant, or Utility patents.  Use the Manual of Classification (Patents) to search for patents by class.  Please note:  this database is a text file; it does not contain images.  Note:  for patent information by company name, see the "Company Dossier" link, search for a company, and then look under "Intellectual Property."

PatentCafe - Find patents, as well as information about licensing, digital rights, definitions related to intellectual property, news articles, and other information.
