Encyclopedia of American Industries. 2 vols.
HC102.E53 (Information Desk1) and in Business & Company Resource Center.
A good introduction to the structure of an industry.  Arranged by SIC and NAICS codes.

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage. Industry Surveys.
Periodical (Information Desk1).  Surveys over 50 different industries and provides some financial data for companies within each industry.

Investext Plus 
Offers the full text of brokerage house reports. Some of these reports may contain some good industry data.

IBISWorld
Market research reports covering thousands of industries in the United States economy on the NAICS code level.top line
Statistical Trends & Other Data

Statistical Abstract of the United States and HA202.A1 (Information Desk1).
This compendium contains a wide variety of statistics. Check the sources listed at the end of the table to locate more detailed or more recent data.

County Business Patterns. U.S. Bureau of the Census.
Payroll and number of establishments by employee size are given by state, county and the U.S. for most NAICS codes.  See also the Census site for additional data including Current Industrial Reports and demographics.

Mediamark Reporter with MRI+
Provides information on demographics, lifestyles, product and brand usage and advertising media preferences. MRI+ also allows users to create magazine lists with audience and circulation rates.

Scarborough Arbitron.
Provides  local market consumer information. The client base includes: newspaper, radio, broadcast television, cable systems, online services, agencies, advertisers, yellow pages, and outdoor.  About 75 local markets are measured and the categories surveyed are consumer retail shopping behavior, product consumption, media usage, lifestyle behavior and all demographics.

Simmons Study of Media and Markets.
Simmons covers products and the characteristics of their consumers and various media audiences and their characteristics.

Sourcebook America with ArcReader.

Provides demographic data, including population, Spending Potential Indexes (SPI), income, race, Tapestry (classifies neighborhoods into consumer segments), and much more. Data are presented by state, county, DMA and zip code. In addition, business data by county and zip code are available.
