This resource provides demographic data, including population, Spending Potential Indexes (SPI), income, race, Tapestry (classifies neighborhoods into consumer segments), and much more. Data are presented by state, county, DMA and zip code.

Statistical Abstract of the United States
Contains a wide variety of statistics with many tables focusing on demographics including population, income, housing, education, race, etc. The sources listed at the end of the table direct you to more detailed and recent data. Particularly look at Section 1 (Population).

American Fact Finder.
U.S. Bureau of the Census data including community profiles.

 

American Community Survey.
Profiles on over 800 geographic areas which offer a quick view of states, places and counties.  Good breakdown of ethnic groups.

City Data
Provides profiles of U.S. cities with population, income, race, education, housing and many with links to employment opportunities, real estate, weather, schools, maps, and businesses. It also includes the Top 101 City Lists which ranks cities by income, crime, shortest commutes, best educated residents and much more.

Current Population Survey

Provides easy access to special population reports covering income, poverty, employment, education and health.

Demographics Now
Basic demographics data including consumer expenditures, population, income, race, housing, employment and Mosaic cluster groups by census tracts, block groups, zip code, county, state and entire U.S. with mapping features.

Uses GIS to create reports on U.S. cities with information on age, ethnicity, education, environment, growth rates, income, housing stats, major newspaper, transportation, local contacts and distances to other major cities.


Search the Library Catalog for books and other cataloged sources  using subject headings: “consumers”, “young consumers” and “consumer behavior”.


Periodicals  - A very useful journal is American Demographics, held in print at Horn Library or available online through ProQuest or  Ebscohost.
