Babson College will hold a concert featuring Michelle Abadia, lyric coloratura soprano with Catherine Grein on piano and Stephen Schiffman on clarinet, Saturday, October 14th, 7:30 p.m. in the Glavin Chapel.

Michelle Abadia, originally from Caguas, Puerto Rico, began pursuing musical interests at the age of five, studying voice, piano and guitar. As a teen, she won two Latin American voice competitions and starred in various local TV and radio broadcasts.

She went on to earn degrees in French literature (with a minor in international relations) and a second master’s degree in music/vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. She has performed in the San Juan and Boston metropolitan areas, in New York City, Providence, Washington DC, Anaheim, Calif., Italy and Great Britain. While continuing to perform, Abadia is currently a professor of modern languages at Babson College and Mass Bay Community College, as well as a leader of song at St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill, MA.

Catherine Grein studied piano for approximately ten years, including six years at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.  She went on to study voice at Wellesley College, and graduated in 1972 with a double major in music and English.

She also plays the pipe organ, and is currently involved in the parish music program at St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill, where she is a member of the choir and assistant organist.

Stephen Schiffman was undergraduate program dean at Babson College from 1994- 2001. A Babson faculty member since 1986, he now holds a joint appointment at the F.W. Olin College of Engineering where he has been teaching entrepreneurship since that College’s inception. He has played the clarinet for most of his life, and has participated in numerous chamber music ensembles. His current teacher is Thomas Hill.

The program is co-sponsored by the Sorenson Center for the Arts and the Office of Spiritual Life.

Admission at the door is $20 general public, and $10 students. Please call 781-239-5622 to reserve seats and for more information.

All proceeds will support Babson Global Outreach through Entrepreneurship.
