Babson’s Mark Albion Keynotes at MBA Career Services Conference

Babson’s Mark Albion Keynotes at MBA Career Services Conference

Dr. Mark Albion of the Office of the President for the Lewis Initiative at Babson College will deliver the closing keynote for the 2009 MBA Career Services Council Annual Conference June 18 in Phoenix.

Dr. Albion will speak on “Business Schools Under Fire: Developing Meaningful Careers in Turbulent Times.” He will argue that as business school curricula no longer equip our students to be successful leaders with fulfilling lives, there is a new reality in the services needed by our students, a new reality to what it means to be a “career officer.” He will offer a four-part framework of components he believes is necessary to educate and place students in today’s globally competitive environment. At the MBA CSC’s annual meeting the day before the conference, Dr. Albion will discuss his latest book, More Than Money, the organization’s 2009 book club selection.

A seven-time social entrepreneur, Dr. Albion left Harvard Business School undefinedafter nearly 20 years as a student and economics and marketing professor to develop a community of service-minded MBAs, co-founding Net Impact in 1993. He's made 600+ visits to speak at business schools on five continents, for which Business Week magazine dubbed him “the savior of B-school souls."  In 1996, he officially represented the United States at the United Nations to speak on how to educate the next generation of socially conscious global leaders.

Dr. Albion is the author of seven books, most recently More Than Money: Questions Every MBA Needs to Answer, with a foreword by Net Impact executive director Liz Maw. This past fall, the book was distributed electronically to up to 55,000 MBAs in 75 schools. He is co-founder and chair of the More Than Money Institute LLC which was launched last February to help business students implement the book's framework. An animated movie based on the book, "The Good Life Parable: An MBA Meets a Fisherman," was awarded the largest environmental film festival's official short-film selection last January.

The 2009 MBA CSC Annual Conference is North America’s most comprehensive gathering for professional education, information gathering and networking among MBA career services and recruiting professionals. Planned with the realities of the current economic situation in mind, this 9th annual 450-person event is designed to help career officers find new ways to reach students and employers in an employment-challenged year. Attendees learn what schools and employers are doing through a wide range of plenary sessions, workshops, special events and networking opportunities. The 2009 conference theme is “Discover, Design, Deliver,” capturing the passion for new ideas, innovative programs and results.
