Navigating A Difficult Economy

Babson College will hold its 6th annual Bio-Industry Conference on Friday, April 3, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in Olin Hall.

Keynote speaker isDeborah Dunsire, CEO of Millennium Pharmaceuticals, whose mission is to deliver extraordinary medicines to patients with cancer worldwide through science, innovation and passion. Dr. Dunsire joined Millennium from Novartis, where she helped increase the North American oncology revenues to over $2.1 billion from approximately $50 million in 10 years.

She sits on several Boards including the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), Allergan, Inc., Museum of Science (Boston), CancerCare (New York) and the G&P Foundation for Cancer Research. Dunsire earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Witwatersand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Babson Life Sciences Club has assembled thought-leaders and industry professionals to sit on panels to discuss the state of the industry and the challenges it faces in the current economy. Panel topics include Mergers & Acquisitions, Outsourcing, and Breaking into the Industry.

The difficult economy has led firms to pursue cost-cutting measures including mergers and acquisitions and outsourcing. The “Breaking into the Industry” panel will highlight what professionals in the pharmaceutical and biotech markets did to make them successful. Human Resource and Recruiting professionals will also share their insights into how to navigate the challenging job market.

Closing speaker is Adam Feuerstein from thestreet.com. Before joining TheStreet.com in March 2001, Feuerstein covered business software for Upside.com. He has also covered a variety of business beats, including technology and commercial real estate, while at the San Francisco Business Times. Feuerstein graduated from Emory University with a degree in political science.
