Babson's Candida Brush Named Entrepreneurship Research Fellow
|
Babson College announces that entrepreneurship professor and division chair Candida Brush, has been named a 21st Century Entrepreneurship Research Fellow of the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC), a group of scholars committed to advancing the cause of entrepreneurship research worldwide.  Brush, who holds the Paul T. Babson Chair in Entrepreneurship, is well known for her pioneering research in women’s entrepreneurship. She conducted the first and largest study of women entrepreneurs in the early 1980s, resulting in one of the earliest books on the topic. Her continued research catalyzed studies and dissertations worldwide. With four other researchers she founded the Diana Project, a research consortium investigating women’s access to growth capital. They wrote the book, Clearing the Hurdles: Women Building High Growth Businesses, published in 2004. In 2006 she co-edited a book Growth-Oriented Women Entrepreneurs and their Businesses, A Global Research Perspective. For this research, she and her colleagues received the FSF-NUTEK International Award for outstanding research contributions in the field of Entrepreneurship in 2007. Brush has also authored several publications on new venture strategies and international entrepreneurship. Her research is published in both management and entrepreneurship journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Executive, and Strategic Management Journal. Brush’s research has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Business Week on Line, the Boston Globe and Inc., among others. She is also an editor for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. A frequent adviser to the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy on women’s entrepreneurship, Brush was appointed to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Women’s Business Research and the Children Without Borders Foundation. Brush earned a B.A., University of Colorado; M.B.A., Boston College; and D.B.A., Boston University. She also holds a visiting faculty position at the Norwegian University of Technology and Engineering in Trondheim, Norway. GCEC was established for the purpose of continued collaboration among its member centers. It is the vehicle by which the top established entrepreneurship centers worldwide, as well as new emerging centers, can work together to share information, develop special projects, and assist each other in advancing and improving their centers' impact.
