Mark Donohue, Babson Alumnus/Entrepreneur to Judge Clean Energy Business Competition Finals - Massachusetts State House - November 10

The Babson College Clean Technology Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Mark T. Donohue, will leverage his experience as a cleantech entrepreneur, when he joins an elite national panel of judges for the 2009 Ignite Clean Energy Business Competition at the Massachusetts State House November 10.

The competition, which coincides with Massachusetts Clean Energy Week, awards $40,000 of cash to the winner and a total of $200,000 in prizes to the ten finalists. The MIT Enterprise Forum is a key leader in this successful annual event. View the finalists here: http://www.ignitecleanenergy.com/node/775.

In June 2008, Donohue was appointed Babson College’s first Clean Technology Entrepreneur-in-Residence. He teaches and conducts research within the Olin Graduate School and Arthur Blank Center for Entrepreneurship, and lectures in the executive education program.

In 2001, he was the Founder, Managing Partner and Chairman of Expansion Capital Partners, LLC, a pioneer in clean technology venture capital investing, which manages over $100,000,000. Clean technologies include resource efficiency and productivity improvements in areas such as bio-materials, wastewater treatment and energy efficiency. Mr. Donohue sold his controlling interest in Expansion Capital Partners in June of 2008. He solely serves as Chairman Emeritus today.

Donohue has built three successful investment management and financial service companies, and has been involved in growing over twenty-five venture capital backed enterprises. His career has focused on entrepreneurship, business strategy and investment in the areas of clean technology and socially responsible business. He has been a member of many boards of directors, including chairing five entrepreneurial boards of directors.

Donohue was a founding investor and has served for seven years on the Advisory Board of the Cleantech Group, LLC - the leading conference and knowledge organization in the Cleantech sector. He also serves as a Partner in Conscious Living Ventures. He has also served in a variety of non-profit roles, including the “Micro-Credit Lending” Grant Committee of the Threshold Foundation. He was previously Chair of the Membership Committee for the Social Venture Network (the leading organization of executives furthering sustainability) and a Trustee of the Temple of Understanding (America’s oldest interfaith educational organization). He currently serves on the Research Board for PBS’s “Ethical Markets”, and he previously had a radio feature on Sirius’s “Inside Wealth,” which interviewed Cleantech entrepreneurs.

Donohue earned his BS in Investment Management from Babson College in 1988. He has served on the College’s Board of Overseers since 2002. Donohue has been a leader in many Babson initiatives, such as founding and chairing Babson’s first “Forum on Socially Responsible Business” in 1994, which organized thirty leading CEO’s and foundation executive directors to pass knowledge to 400 participating students. In 2007, 2008, 2009 and now 2010, he has been Chairman and co-founder of Babson’s Entrepreneurial Energy Expo, which attracted 600 attendees in 2009.
