Babson’s Annual Founder’s Day Celebration Focuses on Giving Back

Babson’s Annual Founder’s Day Celebration Focuses on Giving Back

Babson’s annual Founder’s Day will take place this year on Friday, October 16, as part of Family and Friends Weekend 2009

In the spirit of the values promoted/espoused by founder Roger Babson, we are offering faculty/staff, students, families and alumni, opportunities to give back to our own community and to the local Boston community through on- and off-campus volunteer activities throughout the morning.  Service opportunities include:

·         GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK (9:30 a.m.-noon)
Boston, MA (leave campus by 8:45 a.m.)

The
Greater Boston Food Bankannually distributes nearly 20 million pounds of food, for a total wholesale value of more than $41 million. The food is distributed to a network of more than 800 food assistance programs (including soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters) throughout the nine counties in eastern Massachusetts. Volunteers will work to sort incoming donations and package them for delivery.

·         FRIENDS OF THE HOMELESS OF THE SOUTH SHORE (9:30 a.m.-noon)
Norwell, MA (leave campus by 8:45 a.m.)

Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore consists of a food pantry, a clothing closet, a furniture bank, and housing for homeless families. Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks from yard work to painting to construction.

·         CRADLES TO CRAYONS (10:00 a.m.-noon)
Quincy, MA (Leave campus by 9:15 a.m.)
The Cradles to Crayons
mission is to put new and gently used children’s essentials into the hands of Massachusetts families who need them most. From strollers and car seats to books and clothing, Cradles to Crayons provides items that enrich the lives of children and the people who love them. Volunteers will be putting gift bags together and sorting through clothes, toys, and books.

·         ON CAMPUS SERVICE PROJECT (10:00 a.m.-noon)
Glavin Family Chapel
Volunteers will be sorting, folding, and packing clothes for our Cradles to Crayons Program.

·         MORNING – TREE PLANTING AT BABSON On Campus
Join us as we help reduce Babson’s carbon footprint and give back to the earth by planting trees in needed locations on our campus.  Volunteers will learn about the benefits of tree planting, help with digging, shoveling, and tree placement.

·         MORNING - BLOOD DRIVE Babson Campus
Sponsored by Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Following that, all are invited to the annual Founder’s Day Community Lunch where volunteers will share stories from the morning activities, see archives from the Roger Babson Museum, learn some history about the College, and see a presentation of how many on campus give back through the Bernon Center, FME Businesses, PMC, Jimmy Fund, and others.

Family & Friends Weekend is four days of activities that include Family Weekend, Founder’s Day, the Babson Alumni Entrepreneur Hall of Fame Dinner, the Babson Entrepreneurship Forum, and more.
