Babson Professor Honored for Research at Top Finance Conference

Babson College assistant finance professor Gang Hu is winner of the NASDAQ Award for the best paper on capital formation by the Western Finance Association. undefined

Hu’s paper “Institutional Trading, Allocation Sales, and Private Information in IPOs” was first selected from more than 1000 submissions. 144 papers were chosen for the conference program, out of which five received best papers awards in their respective areas.

The WFA conference, held this year in Big Sky, Montana, is widely regarded as the best academic finance conference.

Hu is assistant professor and holder of the Fidelity Term Chair in Finance at Babson. He specializes in the study of corporate finance, institutional investors, and trading. His research has been presented at the American Finance Association (AFA) and the Western Finance Association (WFA) meetings. He has won a Best Paper Award from the Eastern Finance Association, and research grants from Morgan Stanley and the New York Stock Exchange. His past research in operations and decision sciences has appeared in academic journals including the European Journal of Operational Research and Applied Mathematics Letters.

Hu was a Quantitative Trade Analyst at Fidelity Management & Research Company’s Global Equity Trading group during 2000 to 2003, where he worked on equity trading techniques, broker relationships, and trading costs measurement.

Hu earned a B.E. in System Engineering from Tianjin University, China, and a Ph.D. in Finance from Boston College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute.
