Babson is Midway Site for Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk

Babson Collegewill host the midway finish and 2^nd half start for the 21^st annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, September 13.

The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk allows participants to follow the course of the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon that ends downtown at Copley Square. This year, the Walk aims to raise more than $6 million. Since its 1989 inception, over $60 million has been raised for cancer care and treatment at Dana-Farber through the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

Babson is the halfway point; a finish line for those ending their half-marathon walk that started in Hopkinton and a start line for those who will finish their half-marathon in Boston.  Walk check starts on Saturday, September 12, 1 – 4 p.m. and on Sunday at 8:30-11:00am – in Knight Auditorium.

Babson volunteers include entering freshmen and students from the Green Tower, a dorm housing students dedicated to a sustainable way of life and doing business, and several student teams will be participating in the walk.

A team of between 50-75 juniors and seniors who are taking Len Green’s Entrepreneurship classes – as well as Professor Green himself – will be participating. They have formed a Babson “Green Team” and have set a goal of raising $ 25,000. These runners/walkers will either be doing a 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon or the full 26.2 marathon.  Among those on the Green Team are members of Babson’s Cross Country team, along with head coach Russ Brennan.

Volunteering for the Walk gives students the opportunity to honor friends, family, co-workers, and patients facing all forms of cancer. The event is presented byHyundai Motor America.

The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against adult and pediatric cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world-renowned pioneer in discovering and developing innovative, more effective cancer therapies. The Jimmy Fund’s supporters enable Dana-Farber’s physicians and researchers to do the work necessary to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. Progress is continually being made thanks to research funding raised by the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.
