Babson Professor Wins Sales Management Award for 2007

Babson Marketing professor Michael Levy has been awarded the 2007 James M. Comer Award for Best Contribution to Selling and Sales Management Theory/Methodology in the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management (JPSSM).  undefined

The winning article, “The Variance in Sales Performance Explained by the Knowledge Structures of Salespeople," was co-authored with Arun Sharma, the University of Miami, Heiner Evanschitzky Strathclyde University (Germany).

 

The award was announced March 28th at the National Conference in Sales Management (NCSM) event in Dallas, and will also be mentioned at the Academy of Marketing Science conference in May.

 

Levy is the Charles Clarke Reynolds Professor of Marketing at Babson College and Director of Babson’s Retail Supply Chain Institute. 

He received his Ph.D. in business administration from The Ohio State University and his undergraduate and MS degrees in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Prior to Babson Levy was professor and chair of the marketing department at the University of Miami, and before that he taught at Southern Methodist University. 

 

Levy’s research is in retailing, business logistics, financial retailing strategy, pricing, and sales management and he has published over 50 articles in marketing and logistics journals, including the Journal of Retailing, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Marketing Research.  He currently serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Logistics and Materials Management, ECR Journal, and European Business Review.  He is co-author of Retailing Management, 7e, the best-selling college level retailing text in the world; Marketing 1e, and M-Marketing 1e.

 

Prior to his academic career, Levy worked for several retailers and a housewares distributor. He has done research projects for Accenture, Burdines Department Stores (now Macy’s), Khimetrics, Mervyn’s, Neiman Marcus, ProfitLogic (now Oracle), and Zale Corporation, to name just a few.
