Wellesley, MA – Norean Radke Sharpe has been appointed Associate Dean and Director for Undergraduate Programs at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Sharpe, who is currently Chair of the Division of Mathematics & Science at Babson, will join Georgetown University in July. She has been a professor of statistics and operations research at Babson since 1995.

Given the caliber and commitment of the students and faculty, I believe we have an enormous opportunity to raise recognition as global leaders in business education.”
At Babson, Sharpe manages faculty and staff in the disciplines of mathematics, operations research, statistics, as well as the physical, life and environmental sciences. In her role as Chair of the Mathematics and Science division, she has revised the undergraduate business curriculum and improved the co-curricular experience of Babson students. She has developed a strategic plan for quantitative undergraduate education, advised students, mentored faculty, and established a cross-institutional seminar series for students and faculty.
With previous academic appointments at Bowdoin College, Yale University, and the University of Virginia, Sharpe is the coauthor of over 30 articles and reports, has given over 30 presentations and has written three books. She has served as the chair of multiple task forces that examine academic, social, and cultural issues facing undergraduate business students. Sharpe’s research, which focuses on statistics education, forecasting models and diversity issues in math and science has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and books, including a textbook for introductory business statistics.
Serving in many professional organizations, Sharpe has helped motivate and support efforts towards increasing interest in math and science among women and diverse populations. She is a co-founder and Chairman of the Board for the DOME Foundation (Diversity and Outreach in Mathematics and Engineering), a not-for-profit that serves to increase the participation of underrepresented youth in the areas of mathematics. Sharpe has organized multiple symposia for DOME which focuses on increasing collaborations across corporations, academic institutions, and public schools.
Sharpe also serves as Associate Editor for CAUSE (Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education) and Associate Editor for the journal entitled, Cases in Business, Industry, and Government Statistics. Her textbook entitled Business Statistics (with Professors R. DeVeaus at Williams College and P. Velleman at Cornell University) was published in 2008. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics and German from Mount Holyoke College, an M.S. in Biomathematics from the University of North Carolina, and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.
