WHAT: The 2008 Women’s Leadership Conference: Winning Strategies for Success, produced by The Conference Board (www.conference-board.org/women)
WHERE: Waldorf Astoria, New York, NY
WHEN: Thursday, April 3, 2008, 11:15am
WHO: Susan Foley, Author of “Entrepreneurs Inside,” Founder of Corporate Entrepreneurs, LLC, and Executive Director, Research Centers at Babson Executive Education
“Corporations are always striving to retain their best talent,” said Susan Foley, Babson Executive Education’s Executive Director of Research Centers and Corporate Entrepreneurs, LLC Founder. “However, one leak in the system is the departure of women to start their own businesses.”
In her session, “What Can Be Learned from Entrepreneurs?” Foley, along with fellow panelist Denise Singleton, vice president, office of diversity, MetLife, will explore the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs; how corporations can use these skills more effectively; what it is about these individuals that makes them able to leave a larger organization or might encourage them to stay; and what some of the skills are that should be present in both a corporate and entrepreneurial environment.
Foley has spent the last 20 years helping Fortune 1000 companies, professional services firms and entrepreneurial start-ups develop new businesses that have generated millions of dollars. As an experienced corporate entrepreneur, she understands the challenges of building an entrepreneurial environment for growth and she specializes in building new businesses with plans that are realistic and can be executed with precision.
Foley believes that many corporations do not fully understand the value of developing corporate entrepreneurship as a core competency. Her company, Corporate Entrepreneurs, LLC, was created to help change that. Recognizing that entrepreneurial leaders possess unique combinations of competencies that distinguish them from traditional leaders, and realizing that many corporate entrepreneurs were leaving large corporations because they were not being given opportunities to leverage their skills, she authored, “Entrepreneurs Inside: Accelerating Business Growth With Corporate Entrepreneurs” to tell their story.
