Babson Hosts Social Entrepreneurship Conference on October 23

Babson Hosts Social Entrepreneurship Conference on October 23

Babson College is the site for ForSE 2009: Forum for Social Entrepreneurs, an all-day conference on October 23, sponsored by TiE-Boston and Net Impact Undergrad, Babson College, with support of the Deshpande Foundation.

Babson President Leonard A. Schlesinger will deliver a keynote address.  Other keynote speakers include Pamela Hawley, Founder and CEO of Universal Giving, and Andre Porter, Executive Director, Massachusetts Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

The forum brings together social innovators, leading business professionals, investors, donors, government officials, academics, and students to facilitate the sharing of new technology and business ideas. Along with hard-earned management teaching it aims to foster informed discussion and action on new social venture concepts.

It will also be an opportunity to identify and recruit talent, meet potential partners to support a new idea, share best practices with peers, and interact with senior executives from Boston’s leading companies, non-profit/social ventures, foundations, philanthropies, and beyond.

Key issues to be addressed by speakers and panelists are:
• Social Media for Social Entrepreneurs
• Sustainable Business Models for Social Ventures
• Valuing Social Enterprises
• An Investors perspective of Microfinance

Interactive hands-on sessions include:
• In-depth discussions with expert panel of practitioners and leaders in the field
• Case discussion and brainstorming to help emerging social entrepreneurs solve business challenges
• Interactive workshops to help launch your new business idea

New this year: Pitching SE – is an opportunity to refine pitches, focus ideas, wow a panel of seasoned judges, and win a prize. For rules and sign up info, visit www.tie-se.org.

TiE-Boston is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to foster and support entrepreneurship, either in a start-up context or within a larger company. The organization represents a diverse set of industries, including software and information technologies, biotech, financial services and other services.

Net Impact Undergrad is a new program built on Net Impact's proven model of organization, inspiration, and education. Net Impact's membership has traditionally focused on MBAs, graduate students, and young professionals who wish to leverage their influence for the benefit of society, the economy, and the environment. As awareness of business as a means for social change spreads, we realize that it is crucial to involve undergraduate youth who want to know how they can translate what they learn in the classroom into tools they can use as socially responsible professionals.
