Babson College Hosts Jan. 23rd Year Up Field Trip--Helps Urban Young Adults Succeed in Today’s Workplace

Seventy students (ages 18-24) and staff from Year Up---a non-profit organization that helps urban young adults reach their professional potential—will travel to Babson College on Jan. 23rd to boost their business relationship and networking skills with Babson faculty and corporate managers from area businesses. The program is co-sponsored by the Boston chapter of the Society for Information Management.

Kavin Moody, executive director, Babson’s Center for Information Management Studies (CIMS), has organized the day’s agenda including:

  • Introduction to Babson College and review of Admissions/Financial Aid information.
  • Lecture and break-out sessions on specifics of building relationships and networking skills.
  • Workshops with corporate managers on “Making it Real”—personal stories about building a career, handling rejection, staying focused, positive, and sales techniques.
  • Reality networking session with Babson faculty and corporate managers.

“Babson is honored to host Year Up,” says Kavin Moody, “This diverse group of students is determined to succeed, and Babson’s entrepreneurial focus will help shape them into agile leaders ready to take on real business opportunities.”

Babson College also partners with The Posse Foundation to recruit urban student leaders with an interest in business to attend the top-ranked college for entrepreneurship in the U.S.

Posse offers full-tuition scholarships to promising teens in danger of being overlooked who can contribute to the robust, business-oriented climate at Babson.  Babson is the first business school to work with Posse

Year Up currently serves more than 650 students a year at sites in Boston, Providence, New York City, Washington, D.C. and soon San Francisco.
