Students and their finest business plans will compete for top honors at Babson College’s annual business plan competition on Friday, April 23 in Olin Hall.
Douglass Foundation Graduate Business Plan Competition at 8 am features:
Boston ViroScience (Thomas Tabaczynski M'04, David Fenton M'03, David Tabaczynski)
Boston ViroScience holds the intellectual property on a novel protein (enzyme) production system with significant yield improvements and other features that make it an attractive alternative over current production methods.
CreditSource (Jared Mabey M'04)
CreditSource is a MicroFinance Institution (MFI) that will provide loans to small businesses in developing countries. Unlike most MFIs, CreditSource will be financially self-sustainable and will generate profits for investors, thus attracting large amounts of capital and creating value by providing a social and financial return to both the loan recipients and investors.
Seahorse Power Company (Alexander Perera M'04, James Poss M'03, Bret Richmond – Olin '06, Jeffrey Satwicz – Olin '06, Richard Kennelly)
The company manufactures an innovative solar-powered trash compactor, ideal for remote and high-traffic areas. It shipped its first unit in February 2004 to Vail Resorts, Inc.

Artisan Bread Company (Tobias Donath '04)
The Artisan Bread Company will be a place where customers can come for a high quality and healthy breakfast, lunch or snack at a convenient location with a warm, traditional community atmosphere. Through bread education, sampling and community involvement we will teach the consumer about bread. We will offer fresh loaves ready to buy, creative and tasty sandwiches, soups, salads, pastries and bagels. The consumer will discover that bread is more then a means to keep the mustard off hands.
Gentleman Inc. (Heather Tomkinson '04, Christopher Gartlan '04, Erin Hurley '04, Rebekah Leger '05)
Gentleman Inc. is a male salon and spa that offers services within both the spa and salon categories but in an atmosphere that is comfortable and relaxing for the male customer.
Performance Ambulance Service (Wesley Donohoe '04) Performance Ambulance Service (PAS) will utilize new dispatching and traffic congestion data to save more lives in Cook County, IL, by allocating more equipped and closer ambulances. In addition, PAS will employ revolutionary patient collection software and cohesive billing software to reduce accounts receivable in an industry with historically high accounts receivable.
More than 200 business plans get written every year at Babson. Thirty-six plans made it to the evaluation round where approximately 200 alumni from around the world judged their quality. The top six plans (three grad/three ugrad) advanced to the final round of the competition.
