Campus Fire Safety Demo at Babson - Thursday, September 17
Wellesley and Needham Fire Departments Participate
Babson College will hold its first annual Campus Fire Safety Day on Thursday, September 17, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hollister Hall parking lot on the Wellesley campus.
The Babson event coincides with National Campus Fire Safety Month to be launched in Washington, DC, the same day.
The goal of National Campus Fire Safety Month is to increase students’ awareness of the dangers of fire on and off college campuses. The Babson event emphasizes that, and supports the Campus Fire Safety Right-to-Know Act signed by President Bush in 2008.
The Wellesley and Needham Fire Departments will demonstrate their equipment, including fire engines, hose, and ladder/aerial trucks. There will be fire extinguisher training, a "Great Escape" from a smoke-filled room demonstration, and a t-shirt give away, among other friendly competitions for prizes.
Domino's Pizza is sponsoring the Babson event as part of the national campus fire safety campaign and will be giving out pizza. Support also comes from Best Buy, Center for Campus Fire Safety, and the National Fire Protection Association.
As part of the national launch in Washington, college students will meet with Congress and encourage schools across the country to host fire safety courses for its students. This effort is being led by a coalition of campus fire safety organizations including Campus Firewatch, the Ohio Fire Safety Coalition, and the Congressional Fire Services Institute, along with numerous supporting organizations.
