Course Load Accommodations
It is an option for a student with a disability or impairment to take a reduced course load while retaining a full-time status. To request a reduced course load, a student must provide appropriate and recent documentation to the Manager of Disability Services. Reduced loads are processed on a semester by semester basis. In addition, the student must meet with the Manager to discuss this request, submit a formal written request, and apply for a Petition for Variance on the E-Forms by the second day of Add/Drop. Following the request, the Manager will inform the student as to whether the request is approved or denied. Note: A reduced course load in no way jeopardizes the full-time status of a student with a disability. It may, however, jeopardize the financial support a student receives from the college or the government. Thus, if a student requests a reduced course load, he/she must first speak with a representative from the Student Financial Services located on the third floor of Hollister Hall.
Transportation Accommodations
Babson College owns a wheelchair accessible van. To request information pertaining to the use of this van, contact the Manager of Disability Services at (781) 239-4075. There are accessible parking spots in every parking lot on campus. To apply for an accessible parking sticker, you must provide a doctor's letter and appropriate documentation. To receive more information, contact the Department of Public Safety at (781) 239-5598.
Housing Accommodations
The Manager of Disability Services works closely with the Office of Campus Life to arrange suitable on-campus housing accommodations. These accommodations may, but are not limited to, wheelchair accessible bedrooms, wheelchair accessible bathrooms, single bedrooms, and various accommodations concerning furniture within a bedroom. Students requesting housing accommodations must contact both the Manager of Disability Services and the Associate Director of the Office of Campus Life responsible for Housing. Students must provide appropriate and recent documentation consisting of an evaluation by an appropriate professional that relates the current impact of the condition to the request. Reasonable accommodations depend upon the nature and degree of severity of the documented disability or impairment. While the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires that priority consideration be given to the specific methods requested by the student, it does not imply that a particular accommodation must be granted if it is deemed not reasonable and other suitable techniques are available.
Adaptive Technology Babson College maintains a variety of adaptive equipment and software to assist individuals in their academic endeavors. An adaptive computer and other equipment are located in the Assistive Technology Room in Academic Services on the second floor of Hollister Hall. Students, faculty, and administrators interested in using the equipment should contact the Manager of Disability Services at (781) 239-4075.
