Peer Advisors
What are Peer Advisors?
Peer Advisors are trained students who work in the Office of Academic Services, and who provide academic advising to their fellow students. They are thoroughly trained on the Babson curriculum, course selection, and registration processes. They are also knowledgeable about specific policies and programs such as variances (over-loading, enriching, and under-loading), off campus coursework, cross registration, and concentrations.
Peer Advisors are an extension of the office advising team and work closely with the Office of Academic Services professional staff (including Class Deans and Program Administrators). They provide walk in advising, work on academic advising projects like FAQ documents for students, and conduct presentations on academic related topics; for example, the Peer Advisors visit FYS classes to help first years learn about the curriculum and create a four year academic plan.
If you have academic planning questions, Peer Advisors are available for advising during the Office’s walk in hours, which are 1-4 PM, Monday through Thursday. We are located in the Office of Academic Services, 220 Hollister Hall.
What if a Peer Advisor cannot help me?
The Peer Advisors have been extremely helpful to many of our students and provide a different perspective than our professional staff given they have first-hand experience with the curriculum. Students have commented on how surprised they were to have received such great advising from their peers!
Peer Advisors are available for walk in advising during the same times as the office’s professional staff members (1pm – 4pm Monday through Thursday). If a question or student need is beyond the Peer Advisor’s limitations, they will connect you with a member of the professional staff who is on walk ins at the same time or they will find the answer to your question and get back to you via email.
